Repressed
Video Format
It is a fact that our minds can not make up a new human being’s face. We dream or sketch people we do not know or even ever met, but we have seen them. On the street passing by, the train or they are just in the peripheral vision while sitting at a cafe. Taking the idea of Unrecognizable further from forgotten moments to repressed dreams.
When you repress your dreams, thoughts, ideas, reality and most of all your desires, this is how those dreams look. This series is to those beautiful moments that you can still feel but have the faintest memories of. You may try to remember them, but it just won’t come back up! Think you have seen that face somewhere? That voice is familiar? Maybe you just walked down this street. Are you sure of these answers? You stopped talking in the middle of the fight again. You stopped in the middle of achieving your dream again. You stopped. Again. Where did the end of that sentence, feeling or aspiration go?

Unrecognizable
Digital Artwork
Do you ever wonder how Deja Vu occurs? How you have feelings that can not be described? Do you sometimes dream of things that do not make sense? Do you think you have epiphanies while drunk that make no sense the next morning? Do you ever have moments that you want to last forever, but do not understand why?
This piece is a nod from me to all those times I had unrecognized feelings, thoughts, ideas and emotions that I no longer remember. It is also a nod to those simple moments that can not be named or explained. For those moments we don’t cherish enough. The looks, those feelings that we don’t appreciate enough. If these entities were in high school they would have been “The New Kid” that was always invisible and never discovered.

As an artist, my culture also plays a huge part in my work. Here, another self portrait of mine showcases how I am in love with Paris, dancing and art.
The final painting done by my feet on paper was buried in the same location. Giving my promise to Paris.

The Woman Who Reads You
Charcoal and Poster colours on Paper
16.5in x 23.4in
Inspired by a South Korean artist – Kwang Ho Shian, this faceless woman reads you before you know it. Everyone sees a different prominent colour in the first look. It may change during the day or over months. This happens as the subconscious mind chooses the colour for you, making you see the colour first before the entire image. The prominent colour depicts peoples current state of mind for eg. my short-tempered friend saw red as the brightest, my depressed aunt saw blue while I saw and painted yellow first. One of my relatives took this piece further than I had anticipated as he saw black. Black for me in this piece was for mere outlining and I used it unknowingly! However, he could only see black, which explained his feelings of numbness as he was going through a divorce.

Hand Eye Cordination
Charcoal on Paper
8.3in x 16.5in
This piece represents how we make an image of ourselves to be liked by anyone or everyone. At times we get so trapped within this image of ourselves, that we forget who we were. In a world where everyone is competing, it gets a little tiring to keep this image up and going 24/7. Hence, we lose our originality to this alter ego we created ourselves. Whatever happened to being different, being unique, being yourself, being sane? It can get really dangerous as the amount of effort and the fact that we are so mentally invested in this alter ego, just to keep the facade up, can shatter any beautiful soul.

Rorschach a la MaaKasam
Video Format
The Rorschach test is a psychological test in which subjects' perceptions of inkblots are recorded and then analyzed using psychological interpretation, complex algorithms, or both. Some psychologists use this test to examine a person's personality characteristics and emotional functioning.
This is my Inkblot. If i have the luxury of meeting my audience when they see it, I ask them psychological leading questions to get an in-depth knowledge about the human mind and them personally. It is very interesting to see how people react to the colours, the shapes and what their mind comes up with without being interrupted or suggested.

Etretat
Video Format
I went on a great trip once with my Mother to Etretat. The images used are all clicked from and of the cliffs of Etretat. These cliffs have made their way into several great artists works like Monet and Gauguin, but I didn’t think it would resonate with me. However, being there, the air, the surrounding and the sense of safety was immensely beautiful.
It was so breathtaking I did not even realize when I made this video. The voiceover is from an Indian movie and the words just describe exactly how I felt.

Fox
Acrylic on Paper
8.3in x 11.7in
One of most successful self portraits I made when provoked by someone’s comment - "Looking into one’s inner soul, one finds the unexpected." This piece felt very self nourishing and assuring while painting. It identifies me as a "Fox". The question stands, if I were an animal, which one would I be? Which animal do I resonate with?
A small introduction to Foxes, or should I say, Me- They like to live in confined and cozy spaces, their houses are organised and they choose planning along with subtle cunning hits over sheer brute force. This piece shows my hair and a Fox's face; its half human/half animal, complete Mithila.
